This film bombed in India, but did fairly well in the US.īottom Line: Coke, a cliched plot and characters, and overdone melodrama do not a good film make. Cham-cham-cham-cham-cham-chamakti shaam hai. " Jab Dil Mile" showcases Hrithik Roshan (Did I mention this guy can DANCE?) on an island, and " Chamakti Shaam Hai" is a big dance number with an amazingly catchy beat. " Eli Re Eli" is picturized on the three girl, dancing around their houses in towels and sheets, celebrating awakenings of new feelings. The standout numbers are " Eli Re Eli" (Oh Girl), " Jab Dil Mile" (When Hearts Meet) and " Chamakti Shaam Hai" (This is a Sprarkling Evening). The title song, " Yaadein" appars many times and is pretty enough. It's nothing we haven't seen before, and might've worked if it was presented better. He has it all, dead mother, young daughters struggling with their newfound responsibilities, a torn father, two lovers whose relationship seems impossible. True, the film is enjoyable, but the feeling Ghai tries to put across doesn't stand out, and makes it feel clunky and boring at times.

Subash Ghai attempts this, but it doesn't work.

Melodrama is something that most Bollywood movies have, big spalashing emotions that hit you like a truck and make you cry and laugh and swoon all at one. I still can't erase the image of Jacke Shroff in a speedo ( Rangeela) out of my head, and he seems utterly lifeless and doesn't really do that well. Kareena has spunk, and she and Hrithik's chemsitry is top notch. Hrithik plays the carefree lover with ease, his smiles lighting up the screen happily. It's a funny aspect to a pretty soulless movie.Īs far as performances go, Hrithik and Kareena try their hardest. Well, to start off, they drink Coke at every meal, Shroff has a Coke key chain (which comes into play in the story), and they are shopping for Coke when his wife dies. Some of the stars endorse this brand, so Ghai thought it would be a good idea to place some cans surreptitiously throught the film. Now, imagine this all with Coke popping up all over the place. Their union will join two major companies. Also, Roshan's rich family wants him to marry a socialite. Or do they? Shroff is against the idea of his daughter having a love marraige, because he has seen the disastrous results of his second daughter's love marraige to her boyfriend. Enter Roshan, the dashingly good-looking family friend who sweeps Kapoor off her feet after rescuing her on a desert island. His first daughter settles for an arranged marraige, the second marries her boyfriend, and the third (Kapoor) says that she will marry whoever her father wishes. After a while, he decides to go back to India and marry them off. After his beloved wife dies, he sets out to raise his three daughters (Kapoor being one of them). Jackie Shroff is an NRI that lives in London, and longs for his home in India. Yaadein was their second film together.Īnyway, back to the movie.

In the early 2000's, these two were the pair to watch, full of passion and pep and adequate acting skills. Behold the pair that gave us movies such as Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham (Sometimes Happiness, Sometimes Sorrow), Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon (I'm Crazy about Love), and Mujhse Dosti Karoge (Will You be My Friend?). Kareena Kapoor, known for her unique looks and sometimes blunt and sassy off-screen personality, is from the Kapoor dynasty, and after her sister Karisma's career fizzled out, decided to give acting a shot. Hrithik Roshan, known for his stunningly chisled good looks and breathtaking Adonis-like muscles, had recently shot to fame with his superhit Kaho Naa.Pyaar Hai? (Say it's Love) directed by his Dad, Rakesh Roshan. Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor were two of the newest and freshest actors when this film came out. Imagine the longest Coke commercial possible, with song and dance numbers, extreme amounts of melodrama, and two very good looking actors and you have Yaadein. Starring: Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Jackie Shroff
